New Year

I view life as a moving collage. I have always been in love with movement.  My first memories (pre kindergarden) include putting on a record and singing and dancing to it. I also love color, and after my mother taught me how to embroider I delved into all the crafts I heard about.  I took design as an afterthought in high school and I found that way of thinking so natural- shapes, negative/positive space, composition…And when I was sixteen my grandmother gave me a camera for my birthday and I was now free to grab any visual I saw.

This latest work of mine is taking a colorful still and rearranging the components to the way I see the dance inside that particular second in time.  Sometimes the movement phrase appears like magic but most times I go through various phrases and then the true dance reveals itself.  I do try to keep to a self-imposed rule- that the full image is used, but there is always the exception.
